KL Public Transport Fares & Passes — What to Pay
Fares in the Klang Valley are cheap and distance-based, but the passes are where people overpay or underpay. Here's the plain version. Exact sen-by-sen prices change, so treat the figures below as the shape of it and confirm the latest on the operators' own sites.
The one rule that saves you money
Don't pay cash. Cash tokens cost more than the same trip on a card. On Rapid KL trains (LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT and the Shah Alam Line) the card to tap is a Touch 'n Go card — the gates don't take bank cards yet. KTM Komuter gates do take contactless Visa, Mastercard and MyDebit cards and Apple Pay, as well as Touch 'n Go.
Passes at a glance (2026 prices)
| Pass | Price | Who | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| My50 | RM50 / 30 days | Malaysians (MyKad) | Unlimited Rapid KL trains and buses. Buy or renew at station counters or in the TNG eWallet once your old pass has run out. |
| Rapid Bulanan | RM150 / 30 days | Everyone, including visitors and residents without MyKad | The same unlimited Rapid KL network. |
| Rapid Kembara | RM25 / 1 day, RM55 / 3 days | Everyone | Unlimited Rapid KL trains and buses, loaded onto a Touch 'n Go card at a station counter. Not valid on KTM or the airport trains. |
| Rapid Kota | RM10 / 1 day, RM25 / 3 days | Malaysians | A cheaper short-stay pass for citizens. |
Prices changed on 1 January 2026, the first change in years. Rapid Kembara only pays off on a busy day: single trips cost a few ringgit each, so it takes a full day of hopping on and off to beat tapping as you go.
Is a monthly pass worth it?
Simple test: a typical rail commute across town is around RM3–5 each way. That's roughly RM6–10 a day, so a full month of weekday commuting is far more than RM50. If you're a Malaysian commuting daily, My50 pays for itself in about a week and everything after is free. Occasional riders should just tap a Touch 'n Go card as they go — no pass needed.
Concessions
- Students, senior citizens (60+), and OKU (disabled) get concession fares on Rapid KL and KTM with the right registered card.
- Children below a height/age threshold generally travel free with a paying adult.
KTM Komuter & the airport
KTM Komuter has its own distance-based fares (not covered by the Rapid KL passes) and its own monthly options. The airport trains (KLIA Ekspres / Transit) are a separate premium service — see our KLIA & Changi guide for the cheaper bus and Komuter alternatives.
