BAS.MY City Buses — Ipoh, JB, Melaka, Kota Bharu, Kuching & More
Outside the Klang Valley and Penang, most Malaysian cities are served by BAS.MY — a federal bus programme run by local operators. You may still see the old name, myBAS, on signs and buses. The rules are the same everywhere, which makes them easy to use once you know them.
How BAS.MY works everywhere
- Fares by distance: RM0.94 for the first 2 km, then about 9 sen a kilometre. A ride across town is usually around RM1–2.
- Paying: the national scheme lists cash, debit/credit cards and DuitNow QR; each city's operator also has its own card or app. Some services are cashless, so carry a contactless card as a backup.
- RM30 30-day pass for Malaysian citizens (cut from RM50 in November 2025). Visitors pay per trip.
- Free concession card for students, university students, seniors (60+) and disabled riders.
City by city
Johor Bahru
Rebranded from myBAS in November 2025. Routes fan out from JB Sentral (the main railway station, where the Singapore shuttle train leaves) and Larkin Sentral. Malaysian citizens can also ride the state's free Bas Muafakat Johor network with their MyKad.
| Route | Runs | Stops | |
|---|---|---|---|
| J10 | Terminal Bas Kota Tinggi ↔ JB Sentral | 53 | Stops & times |
| J13 | Larkin Sentral ↔ JB Sentral | 22 | Stops & times |
| J15 | SOGO Mid Valley ↔ JB Sentral | 19 | Stops & times |
| J40 | GP Sentral ↔ Larkin Sentral | 58 | Stops & times |
| J44 | Puteri Harbour Ferry Terminal ↔ Larkin Sentral | 26 | Stops & times |
Melaka
Everything starts at Melaka Sentral; the M100 loop serves the historic centre. Full details in our Melaka guide.
Ipoh
Pink BAS.MY buses since February 2025, from the Medan Kidd hub near the old town, with a city loop and routes out to Tanjung Rambutan, Batu Gajah, Gopeng and Kampar, and Kuala Kangsar.
Seremban
Routes radiate from Terminal 1 in Seremban town, including Seremban 2, Nilai and Tampin, and a Nilai Sentral–KLIA service. Until the end of 2026, KTM Komuter trains to Seremban are heavily reduced by track works, so these buses — and ETS trains, which still stop at Seremban — matter more than usual.
Kota Bharu
BAS.MY since August 2025, with D-numbered routes from Kota Bharu to the airport, the beach at Pantai Cahaya Bulan and the Thai border at Rantau Panjang.
Kuala Terengganu
One of the longest-running networks, with T-numbered routes around the city and along the coast from the Terminal MBKT bus station.
Alor Setar & Kangar
Alor Setar's network (BAS.MY Kota Setar, from mid-2025) runs from Shahab Perdana, including routes to Kuala Kedah and Jitra. Kangar was the very first BAS.MY city, back in 2015; its R-routes reach Padang Besar on the Thai border and the Langkawi ferry jetty at Kuala Perlis.
Kuching
Sarawak's capital joined in March 2025 and added six routes in April 2026. Buses run from the Open Air Market in the city centre and the Saujana terminal, out to Serian, Bau and Muara Tebas.
Every route above has its stops and today's timetable in the route list, and most show the buses moving live on the map.
